US 3PL quote response time benchmark

How fast do US warehouses and freight teams answer an RFQ, and where does the time go? Data collection is open. Add your numbers in about three minutes.

Every 3PL knows a slow quote loses freight. Almost nobody knows what "slow" means, because there is no public benchmark for how long US warehouses and freight teams take to answer a request for quote. This study is building one, openly, with the method published up front.

What we're measuring

  • Typical response time: from an enquiry arriving to a quote being sent, in buckets.
  • Where the delay comes from: missing information, waiting for the person who prices, capacity checks, vendor rates, approvals.
  • How RFQs arrive and how they are priced: channels, rate cards, templates, software and AI.
  • Whether teams measure it at all, and how that relates to the answers above.

Method

  • Who: people at US 3PLs, warehouses, brokers, forwarders and drayage companies who answer or price quote requests, or manage those who do.
  • Recruitment: this page, our own channels and outreach to logistics associations, newsletters and communities. That makes the sample self-selected, which we will state with the results.
  • Questions: exactly the ones above. Self-reported, in buckets, so results describe what teams report rather than timestamps we measured.
  • Threshold: no findings until there are at least 100 complete responses from US companies. Segments with fewer than 10 responses are merged or not reported.
  • Analysis: distribution of typical response time, the most-cited causes of delay, and how both vary by company size, request volume, pricing method and whether the team measures response time. Relationships are reported as associations, not causes.
  • Publication: sample size, recruitment, questions, method and limitations are published with the findings. Individual responses are never published.

Want to measure your own team precisely rather than estimate? The quote response time calculator turns a column of received and sent timestamps into a median and an on-target share. And why freight quotes get delayed explains where the hours usually go.

Common questions

Yes. We don't ask for your name or your company's name. Email is optional and only used to send you the findings; it is stored separately from your answers and never published.

When we have at least 100 complete responses from US companies. We won't publish a partial result as if it were the finding, and we won't put a date on it before the data exists.

Anyone at a US 3PL, warehouse, freight brokerage, forwarder or drayage company who answers or prices quote requests, or manages the people who do.

Where a segment (for example company size or region) has enough responses to say something honest. Any group with fewer than 10 responses is folded into a larger group, so nobody can be identified.
